After Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the Middle East at the end of 2022, Mr. John KC Lee, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, led a delegation from the HKSAR to visit the Middle East in 2023. During this visit, his delegation successfully signed 13 cooperation memorandums and agreements, sparking a craze for business cooperation in the community.

Dr. Aaron Shum responded to the national policy of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to expand into the Middle East and attract investors to Hong Kong by launching the Hong Kong-Middle East Business Chamber (HKMEBC). The chamber's mission is to actively disseminate the latest information about the two regions through existing business networks, provide business matching arrangements for members, organize visits and business exchanges between the two regions, and bring new development opportunities to Hong Kong's enterprises.

HKMEBC has attracted more than 300 companies and business associations from different industries, receiving strong support from vast commercial enterprises and government departments in the business and industrial sectors.

I have been living and doing business in the Middle East for over 40 years. During this time, I have been involved in various businesses and witnessed the rapid growth and changes in the region. I firmly believe that the Middle East is an indispensable market for Hong Kong's future development. The economic and commercial trade exchanges between Hong Kong and the Middle East have become increasingly frequent and prosperous.

Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Middle East, and our Chief Executive, Mr. John Lee, led a delegation of representatives from Hong Kong's business and industry enterprises to the region to explore business opportunities. I believe that now is the perfect time to share my decades of experience in the Middle East and bring together like-minded individuals from various industries to collaborate and explore new markets. It is also an opportune moment to establish a platform that promotes mutual business circles and relationships between enterprises and residents of both regions. Additionally, this HKMEBC platform can serve as an investment channel of Middle East capital into the Greater Bay Area of China, as well as the One Belt One Road initiative, to foster business development among the regions.
